To All Dragon Boat Teams:
We have exciting news – the new dates for the 13th Annual Arizona Dragon Boat Festival will be October 1-2, 2016 at Tempe Town Lake!
Due to the construction of the new west end dam and the draining of the lake next February to April, we’ve explored several alternative options, including changing the site, changing the date, and even cancelling the event.
The San Diego Dragon Boat Race then contacted us about shifting their race to an earlier date in 2016 and came up with the great idea of swapping dates, and that option turned out to be the best for everyone.
So for 2016, the San Diego Dragon Boat Race will be on April 9th & 10th and the Arizona race will be on October 1st & 2nd.
For 2017, we will go back to our regular dates and Arizona will host their 2017 festival in Mar 2017.
This change-up will allow teams to still attend both races, without too many scheduling conflicts.
We apologize for any inconveniences that this may cause and we thank you for your understanding. A huge shout-out goes to San Diego for their brilliant idea and for helping us out.The Festival Steering Committee has started working on the October 2016 festival and with the little extra time for planning, we hope to provide the best Arizona festival yet. Please stay tuned, as we’ll start opening up registration at the beginning of next year. Hope to see you all in October of 2016!
